About // Tobias Kankelborg

During my childhood, I was taught to play classical piano in style of Tchaikovsky and began to immerse myself in the art of the classical pianists before me as well as contemporary composers like John Cage and Philip Glass. Growing up I began to explore the world of jazz and started to incorporate the harmonies and improvisation into the strict style of classical music, leading to a new way of thinking classical compositions.

Today I am composing between the walls of post-modernism, polystylism, and naive minimalism. I display an unusually wide stylistic and emotional range, from almost silent works of innocuous charm to shouting works of tremendous depth, power, and grandeur. I always refer to my work as being the silent stories of a sad piano man and I often use #sadpianoman in the general communication.
